CURRICULUM PRACTICE AND ICT
De Bono's Thinking Hats is an effective thinking tool which can be used in a variety of ways in the classroom for benefits of student and teacher development. Below are some examples of how teachers may choose to use this thinking tool in the classroom and for their own professional development.
1. Curriculum Areas:
Literacy - Reading
Students are able to use de Bono's Thinking Hats, whilst reading and comprehending a text. This process engages the reader more in depth with the comprehension by involving critical and creative thinking, judgement, evaluation, prediction and metacognition. This thinking tool will move the students from literal understandings to higher order thinking therefore leading to improved reading comprehension.
The Six Hats provides the readers a tool to interact and question the author and their thinking.

Six Hats are able to help solve all different kinds of issues such as:
* Incomplete homework.
* Summer school attendance.
* Disagreements during administration/staff "think-tank" sessions.
The Six Thinking Hats approach is helpful by setting a structure for a variety of viewpoints to be shared and for uncommon solutions to be considered.

The Six Hats can also be used to resolve conflict by enabling students and teachers to see how different people feel and react in difficult or different situations. The connectedness of the Hats help them to identify their reactions to situations, analyse them, and make a plan to change these situations.
